I served as a member/examiner on Sajjad's PhD committee and was extremely impressed with his analytical skills, approach to problem understanding and the mathematical rigour he demonstrated. Sajjad is well-rounded in his training, both in terms of the applied concepts of structural dynamics as well as in fundamental control theory. I served on Sajjad’s advisory committee during his time at Waterloo. He made significant contributions in his time here. This is especially impressive because his engineering background had not prepared him for the analytical work in which he engaged. He is a fast learner, and dedicated to his research. Sajjad’s project was primarily analytical, but he demonstrated those results through numerical simulations of spatio-temporal systems (PDEs) of mechanical systems. These simulations were especially delicate, as control and observation features of these spatially-distributed systems are often highly sensitive to the discretization chosen, and so must be treated with care. Sajjad is a solid team member. His presentations are clear and well-organized. He is poised to make significant contributions in his continuing career.
