Recently had the pleasure of hosting Claire at one of our NHS facing conferences. Claire knowledge and ability to engage and audience and more importantly, keep them engaged is 2nd to non. Would recommend Claire to anyone looking to to inject some life and soul into their conference agenda. Not to mention, she’s lovely 😊 .

I worked closely with Claire for many years in my previous role as Managing Partner at Beacon Medical Group. Working with Claire was a pleasure, she is positive, innovative and determined. During the time we worked together we were able to achieve so much and prove that primary care can do so much more than we thought possible. I genuinely believe that the work that Claire led during that time influenced national policy and helped improve the future of General Practice. I can’t recommend Claire enough as a work colleague and leader.

After three years of steering and implementing the strategic direction of Beacon I joined as a non-clinical partner. My portfolio unchanged and more focus on cementing operational excellence as well as navigating the next 2 mergers to become a group supporting 43k patients. Consolidating on our position, we invested heavily in a workforce strategy for our 200 workers and championing investment in skills within primary care regionally and nationally. We have also taken a major step in transforming access to primary care support by introducing digital first same day access to care in 2019.Personally, this has been an enriching time. I've been responsible for building relationships across our community and maturing our integrated care offer, adding my own inspiration to the primary care home movement nationally and international and advising on digital transformation within primary care at a European level. Our single biggest achievement was overhauling our service model to shift to digital first. The largest single practice in the country to do so, shifting 30% of our 200k transactions per year to digital. This project was a change management feat involving political and stakeholder management, pioneering adaptations to our technical infrastructure, reputation management and workforce development.• 33% company growth attained within four years by successfully leading two mergers leading to international recognition for how to integrate working and multidisciplinary teams• 30% of contacts shifted to digital by spearheading the digital transformation to deliver sustainability in a cash-strapped, highly regulated environment

Chief Operating Officer

Jul 2014 - Sep 2020
Proud to be at the vanguard of a new wave of super practices across the UK. When we formed in 2014, our patient population of 32,000 was certainly the largest in the far South West. As clinicians, the partners were strong technical skills and needed complementary management expertise to achieve their goals. In my role, I’ve led the GP merger through its initial founding stage into becoming a national exemplar for Primary Care. I’ve disrupted the norms for our organisation and the local digital and health ecosystems by initiating commercial partnerships with global companies and academic institutions and through spurring local networks by creating TEDMEDLive_SW and the HIPSTER community. As COO, I led all non-clinical elements including strategy, HR, IT and Finance. Every day different and certainly never dull! Our achievements in the first six years have been impressive in terms of service enhancement, profitability, diversification and organisational development.I spearheaded the structure, team, vision, strategy, and direction for the newly formed company. Embedded a culture of care, innovation, and accountability to demonstrate the investment in staff. Served as an international speaker for high-profile engagements, influencing national policy on integrated collaborative business models, multidisciplinary team building, and digital transformation.Having achieved more than we set out to do I focused on legacy and put in place governance, leadership and management training to leave the organization on a stable footing. • £780k achieved by heading a new business model, working with cross-functional teams to produce innovative, faster, and higher quality outcomes• £585k earned by engaging in national pilots, thought leadership, and disrupting the business model through service modernization • 10% efficiency lift won by implementing team-based work, expanding awareness of the strategic direction to colleagues, and providing motivation to achieve objectives

After many years of showcasing the work of Beacon Medical Group to national decision makers I was invited to steer a national resource pack to help Primary Care Networks to develop multi-disciplinary teams. Influencing decision makers at the highest level, including senior ministers, it was a real honour to evangelise about the role of allied health professionals and the broader teams in the care of communities. The end product incorporated the use of big data, customer engagement including a drive for shared decision making, team development, power and politics. This work crystallized my own knowledge about strategic alliances and the power of leveraging networks. It provided the chance to trace back through my own range of experience of working on population level initiatives including crime reduction, children’s safeguarding, education and health to engage and enthuse new teams.

Taking a small idea, stretching it, turning it on its head and creating ripples that shake up city level thinking wasn’t the plan, but it was the outcome of my work. With seed-level support from Beacon, we took a bold step in Autumn 2015 to host a TEDMEDLive event (TEDMED is an annual conference focusing on health and medicine, similar to the Tedx Talks that promote "ideas worth spreading"). The original aim of the event to cut through professional hierarchies and to support multi-disciplinary working. At our first event, we hosted 240 delegates including clinicians and students of every variety. We expanded the reach to include patient advocates, thought leaders and academics but the exponential growth came through inviting local tech and media companies. We wanted to stimulate the environment for innovation by designing in creative clashes. We hosted TEDMEDLive on 3 occasions with global thought leaders in the health technology and healthcare provider space and provided a platform for local academics and education providers to showcase their work. The event started a social movement of innovators clustered around a common ambition to explore different approaches to pre-diabetes. We quickly combined our knowledge resources and attracted specialists in behavioural science. Moving beyond our group, we attracted interest from Ogilvy / IBM Watson and from the South West Academic Science Network to host two separate hackathon events – one at a regional level and one at a national level to demonstrate how a range of social interventions backed up by AI and technology. This work also spring-boarded into citywide Digital strategy groups to showcase the regional eco-system and connect healthcare with digital innovators.
