      - I developed simple to use, photopolymerizable hydrogel formulations for expansion microscopy applications; a process of physically magnifying and clearing biological samples to improve resolution of microscopy imaging. We refer to this technology as PhotoExM. Using PhotoExM, we can achieve 50 nm resolution in standard confocal microscopes.- Using PhotoExM, I implemented a general method to optically clear and expand biological samples grown in biomaterial scaffolds, which we refer to a Gel-to-Gel (GtG) transfer technology. We think that GtG would help accelerate discoveries in tissue engineering. Show less

I developed "smart" polymeric fragrance delivery systems that specifically recognizes cotton fabric and human hair under relevant washing conditions. The work can be subdivided into three general sections: - Identification of cotton and hair-binding peptides using phage display. - Preparation of model polymeric profragrances that selectively deposits onto the target of interest. - Preparation of peptide-functionalized, fragrance loaded capsules using miniemulsion polymerization. Thesis title: Bioinspired selective surface deposition of fragrance delivery systems. Thesis supervisor: Prof. Harm-Anton Klok. The work is performed in close collaboration with Firmenich SA.
