Elizabeth Lindner, MPA

I am consistently awestruck by Izzy Sederbaum's genuine and steadfast dedication to serving the underserved. Izzy consistently promoted diversity within The Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs at all levels. Some of his initiatives included leading the Partnership for Community and Diversity, as a prominent voice within classroom discussions and group projects, and his rigorous work on an exemplary degree project that pioneered research and data analysis of wage theft in Washington State. I had the pleasure of working with Izzy in his capacity as a leader of The Evans School's Partnership for Community and Diversity (PCD). He was enthusiastic about getting speakers come to educate students on all matters involving privilege and diversity. He impressively created a comfortable and open environment to discuss issues that others often shy away from. His presence in PCD meetings greatly improved the dynamic, scope, and effectiveness of the club. Izzy became a natural leader in rallying students around issues of social justice and inclusion at The Evans School. Izzy took initiative to become a veritable representative of his peers' concerns and opinions regarding diversity at The Evans School. Izzy also helped to develop open and comfortable discussions in the classroom. He was recognized by his peers and professors as a leader in diversity through his willingness and adept skills to cultivate conversations about social justice and underserved populations. Izzy was instrumental in examining perceptions of diversity at The Evans School through a project in Dr. Sara Curran's Qualitative Methods class. Izzy was essential to his team's efforts to interview faculty and alumni, observe interactions and discussions around diversity in coursework, and lead a focus group of his peers examining student perceptions of diversity at The Evans School. Without his involvement these foundational and crucial steps towards improving the student experience would not have been possible. Izzy's dedication to creating a more just dynamic between employers and labor in Washington State manifested in an outstanding degree project. His rigorous analysis and exemplary analytical skills will have profound implications in combating of wage theft. He is committed to putting the ideas and principles of The Evans School into action so as to improve the working class' quality of life. I am inspired by Izzy and will carry his shining example as an agent of change on in my own work in the public sector. His example truly embodies all of the ideas and principles of The Evans School at its best and I look forward to seeing what incredible change he makes in our world.
