  I conducted research and analyzed data with the goal of finding a better spinal disc replacement. I used hydrogels and foams to create potential spinal disc replacement models and analyzed their viscoelastic properties using rheometers. I compared these properties to that of natural spinal discs to determine which replacement would be most effective. I mentored Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE) program interns in similar rheology research projects.   I conducted research to analyze the fate and transport of nanoparticles in aqueous environments. I used gold nanoparticles and tested their aggregation with organic material using a Zeta Potential & Particle Size Analyzer (ZetaPALS). The aggregation properties of the nanoparticles helped to determine where these particles would end up if dumped in natural streams. I received this opportunity through a stipend from Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE), a program funded by Saturday Academy.
