I had the privilege of co-leading a group of young campers with Joel in the Summer of 2013. Leading a group of high schoolers, especially in a camp setting, can be exhausting; what I found in Joel as a co-leader was someone who was equally willing to lead as well assist, depending on what our situation/dynamic called for. Joel is a very intelligent individual, paired with a strong ability to communicate-well ideas as he led group discussions. Also on display was Joel's ability to follow a curriculum but not be dependent on one when circumstances led to expanding or improvising at gaps. I would recommend Joel in any position for his marked servant leadership, for he brings value in any setting.

UW-Extension Barron County was extremely lucky to be able to hire Joel for a Community Outreach position. He brought diverse skills that he applied across several program areas, including agriculture, financial security, youth development, community development and horticulture. Joel worked to connect people to programming through marketing and social media, as well as helping Extension educators with direct education. Joel was instrumental in founding the Barron Community Garden through his leadership and community networking abilities. His outreach to underserved populations in the county assisted Extension educators to increase the number of county residents who benefit from university research and programs.
