I can say Karen is as honest and transparent as the day is long! Anyone lucky enough to be represented by her can rest easy in knowing she puts her clients best interest first and will do what it takes to champion their rights. I consider it an honour to call her a friend and would highly recommend her services. She works in a sometimes murky world where unlicensed immigration consultants (read: salesmen!) can charge high fees for no results. Its good to know there’s still high ethics and standards available at reasonable fees. KAREN KWAN ANDERSON SHOULD BE YOUR FIRST CHOICE IF AND WHEN YOU NEED IMMIGRATION ADVICE!

I practise 100% Canadian citizenship and immigration law involving applications to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada; interviews at the Canada Border Services Agency; and hearings before the Federal Court and the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, including detention reviews, appeals of refusals based on family class sponsorships, residency obligations, misrepresentation, medical inadmissibility, and deportation orders. Whether advising on visa applications or appeal matters, I advise clients on the best evidence required by decision-makers. My mission is to preserve fairness and a client's right to present evidence. I meet with clients, manage deadlines, research case law, write submissions, prepare document briefs, prepare clients and witnesses for interviews and hearings, represent clients at hearings, ensure prudent use of clients' funds to achieve objectives, take steps to be proactive rather than reactive in managing client matters, and overall ethically and fearlessly advocate in the best interests of clients. I practised exclusively in immigration law with a focus on litigation after having practised personal injury law for my first three years at this firm. My immigration practice included: - Preparing, monitoring and advising on applications for permanent residence from first meeting up with client to landing in Canada - Working with clients on complex cases involving criminal, medical and financial inadmissibility and misrepresentation - Representing clients at all divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada: Refugee Protection Division, Refugee Appeal Division, Immigration Division, and Immigration Appeal Division - Representing clients on applications for leave and judicial review to the Federal Court I successfully advocated for my client in “The case of the vanishing email” which resulted in a policy change in the visa office: - The Federal Court set aside a visa office decision - The visa office changed their policy on how visa officers communicate information to clients and their family members - The policy change resulted in officers being able to reconsider opening a file where it’s fair to do so based on new evidence - The court awarded $3000 in costs to my client I was President and Vice-President of Public Relations, and VP Education, for In-Pace Toastmasters Club (2011-2016). I won various Toastmasters’ speech competitions. I was the articling principal for two students. Also, I mentored summer students, interns, and junior lawyers. Show less
