Last year, I completed an internship at FSC lawyers. This was my first experience working at an immigration and civil law firm. This year, Me Sadafi-Chaghooshi invited me back as a paid Assistant-Paralegal. In this new role, I have taken on larger responsibilities and am working closely with our clients. I do daily tasks such as emailing clients, updating and maintaining the files, contacting other lawyers or the court, and attending court sessions. I do daily tasks such as emailing clients, updating and maintaining the files, contacting other lawyers or the court, and attending court sessions. I have also taken on larger tasks at the office such as preparing large divorce or immigration applications or drafting important motions prior to a court date. Additionally, I am also tasked with doing research on specific files and searching for pre-existing precedents. Here, my hours of moot court experience have helped me. Working at a law firm has only increased my passion for the law. I have worked on transnational divorce and immigration cases. More specifically, as Me Sadafi-Chaghooshi is a lawyer in both Canada and Iran, we've worked closely with Canadian clients seeking an Islamic divorce in Iran. This specific avenue of law, which I did not know existed prior to working here, is very interesting because it provides nuances to a more traditional Canadian divorce. I Many of our clients have children, and I've become very passionate about advocating for the children's best interest by working to improve their relationships with their parents through custody access and trying to make the divorce process as quick as possible, so as not to affect the children. During the summer of 2019, I interned at FWCanada, an immigration law firm specializing in short-term visits to Canada for individuals with minor convictions. At FW, I learned how to write Criminal Rehabilitation, Temporary Resident Permits and Spousal Sponsorship applications. Before this internship, I had little knowledge regarding how these processes work; however, after reading Me Marisa Feil's book on my first day at work, I gained much knowledge. Before this internship, I had little knowledge regarding how these processes work; however, after reading Me Marisa Feil's book on my first day at work, I gained much knowledge. This internship was exciting because I was working with a large volume of cases that, although all were aimed at CR or TRP, had very different stories and had to be handled uniquely. To gain a CR or TRP, we first created the application. Secondly, we worked closely with our clients to develop customized letters on their behalf. This letter included details about that person's life, conviction and how they've grown. I enjoyed writing these letters, and my persuasive writing improved during this internship. Additionally. working at a law firm for four months was a unique experience. It helped me understand the inner working of law firms, from the day-to-day tasks to the larger projects which involved multiple interns.
