Bio
Amanda Lynn Castonguay
I had the pleasure of working with Joe at the East End Community School where he assisted in teaching computer science concepts in my Rise and Shine class of 3rd-5th graders. Joe was an asset to have in the classroom; his calm demeanor was ideal as students often get frustrated when they get stuck on a problem. Not only did Joe help students with their programming problems, he would talk through a problem with a student, allowing the student to gain a greater understanding of the concept. He is always patient and positive, which is especially important when working with young people. Additionally, Joe was able to help me identify students that where struggling with certain concepts, showing that he really cared. He got to know students strenghts and struggles, allowing him to adjust his approach to the students needs. You can tell that Joe puts this sort of care into everything he does.
Tom Sanderson
I have known Joe for his entire life. He is an exceptional individual. Joe has excellent technical skills, exceptional even within his family of highly successful technical experts, where I in fact am the weak link. His resume and recommendations demonstrate his successful career as a leader and individual and team contributor. His interpersonal and communication skills are exceptional, at the very top among software development professionals. Joe’s commitment to ‘sharpening the saw is evident in his lifelong pursuit of higher education in both technical and non-technical disciplines. In addition, he has kept pace with the rapidly changing field of software development, including his Scrum Master role in recent years. The area I can best comment on is his character. You can be assured that Joe is a man of his word, with upmost integrity, an exceptional work ethic, and a joy and asset to all his colleagues, friends, and family. I highly recommend Joe.

Director - Software Development
-
Feb 2009 - Apr 2013
Managed an annual budget of $3.5M and a team of 40 delivering software solutions on-time and to budget. • Instituted a new methodology for fostering innovation: “FedEx Days”. Teams self-form, come up with ideas, design and implement for 24 hours, deliver results the next day (hence the “FedEx” reference), review results, and vote to determine winner. This approach spurred new product initiatives, decreased new feature time to market, and increased office morale and innovation.• Led a team of 40 development staff, across disciplines. High morale and low turnover, with exceptional output from the teams resulting in meeting or beating feature delivery dates with a high level of quality, as measured by performance and quality metrics (features delivered over time, escaped defect rate).
