Since 2012, I have raised £2M in matched crowd and grant funding, working with established funders such as the Wellcome Trust, Nesta and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. During the first COVID-19 lockdown, Brendon helped to spearhead DV’s ‘Archaeology at Home’ initiative, attracting a total of 11,242 participants, including 8,000 citizens from 81 countries who took part in a Virtual Field School, and an online hosted festival, DigNation, attracting an audience of 3,300 from 61 countries. This work was recognised in 2021 by winning prestigious Europa Nostra Award and Heritage in Motion award. Show less

Business Development Manager
-
Jun 2008 - Feb 2010
Moving out of the field and into the commercial side of the business, I was responsible for business development, locating and matching opportunities with in-house or external expertise. My appointment coincided with the collapse of the construction sector and the suspension of state funded infrastructure development. In adapting to these new financial realities, I assisted in repositioning the business and reducing dependence on road scheme contracts.I developed an extensive knowledge of public and private procurement models, devising method statements, ensuring qualification compliance, estimating timescales and all project costs, and monitoring growth with statistical reports on pricing trends, strike rates and potential areas of development. Site Director
-
Feb 2004 - Feb 2010
All my management roles in archaeology are built on a firm foundation of fieldwork skills – I am a licensed eligible Site Director and full member of professional institutes in both Britain and Ireland. My directing credits including: • Urban: Permenex Site, St Ives, Cambridgeshire – a town centre redevelopment involving an open area excavation of a river frontage site, resulting in the discovery of the UK’s first historic cock-fighting pit in the backyard area of a historically recorded tavern.• Greenfield: Carrowkeel, Co. Galway, an early medieval cemetery settlement identifying the earliest dated evidence for the later medieval practice of segregated children’s burial ground.• Wetland: Newrath, Co. Kilkenny, a multiperiod alluvial and estuarine wetland excavated on the banks of the river Suir. I devised and managed a strategy for recording the prehistoric trackways, brushwood platforms and Mesolithic flint scatters, later nominated as Current Archaeology Rescue Dig of the Year 2011.
