Being an Art Director is being a creative influencer to a bigger account team. Working with a writer, we think through creative strategy that would pair with key messaging, and media plans for the overarching marketing strategy. We get to ensure the creative fits the brand in both look as well as voice and attitude. For several accounts I have been a part of building launch strategies and campaigns for rebrands and new products. More and more these campaigns have included several different types of media as well as tapping heavily into the social media arena. We have seen client budgets decrease but demand more and more for the dollars, so getting creative with the strategy and deliverables has been paramount. With clients like OTIS Technology we have turned to creative and unique interactions with their audience through social media channels to help sway the perception of their brand. With clients like Gerber Gear we have been producing campaigns that have an all digital approach with a big focus on video for pre-roll placements as well as consistent brand product videos. With Minn Kota motors we have been able to do our most integrated campaigns with everything from print, digital, broadcast, social media, and event activations. I have even been apart of building our relationship with Rescue! pest control—starting with just a few packaging projects to working on several marketing and advertising pieces as well as brand collateral we grew their business with Swanson • Russell from a projected $75,000 to $300,000+ in 2017.Working on these many types of projects I have been required to work with several vendors and create new relationships with photographers and videographers to keep work fresh and moving along. Multi-day shoots where we are either focused on multiple products or scripts have been a large part of my responsibilities as well as planning them to run as smooth and efficiently as possible. As a brewery we prided ourselves in keeping focus on great beer and great service. Having a knowledge of craft beer and styles I was able to talk shop with customers as well as guide new beer drinkers to decisions that will help them enjoy their visit. Helped the Bistro start their bar program as well as create new drinks and specials for patrons. Learned and focused bar tending on craft/preprohibition cocktails. Brought in new craft beers and gained a short education in Italian wines, just enough to get into trouble. Stagewrite Publishing is where I got my feet wet. I was still in my second year in college and landed this job in publication design. My primary function was to check in ads from clients and work on the pagination and preflight of the pubs before they went to press (with the occasional page layout). This was a great starting position for me where I was able to learn the technical aspects of production and the basic principals of page layout. Stagewrite Publishing is where I got my feet wet.
