Bio
Julie Taufa’asau, Ed.D.
It is my pleasure to write a brief recommendation for Cordara Newson as a student affairs professional working in higher education. I hired Cordara to work in the Re-Enrollment Office at Centenary College of Louisiana as a specialist who was the primary person interfacing with the public—students, faculty, staff, and parents/guardians. He quickly learned the intricacies of the position and his work was invaluable to our office. He came up with innovative ways to communicate information from our office to the greater college community and greatly contributed to an office that became more collaborative and engaged within the community. Within a year, he was promoted into the counselor position in our office, which focused student success and retention. Cordara identified at-risk students and developed relationships with them as well as programs to better support them. Cordara is a natural in working with and supporting students. He does so in a meaningful, authentic, caring, and enthusiastically fun manner that draws students to him and allows him to best serve them.

Cordara is a phenomenal, student-centered professional who is committed to student success. I've worked with Cordara on several campus projects centered around diversity, student retention, and student success. Cordara does any job duty with enthusiasm and positive energy. I've also witnessed Cordara serve as an exemplary mentor and example to students of color on Centenary's campus. Often times, students would stop by Cordara's office just to speak or seek out additional guidance. Cordara had the support and trust of students at Centenary, and I admired that greatly.
