Station Manager
-
Jul 2014 - Jul 2015
I was responsible for being the key link between the professional world and the student station. Managing a team of up to 250 people involved with the station. This included managing the committee, presenters and producers involved with the station. My main ambition when taking on the role was to transform what was a small student radio station into one of the heavyweights battling for Student Radio Association Awards. Secondly, I wanted to make the organisation fun, rewarding and a stepping stone for a professional career. This role has given me the drive and determination to a successful career in the commercial radio industry. I was expected to work closely with the universities student union SUBU and achieve targets set by the communications manager. This included recruiting a new team of volunteers for the year, running on air competitions by creating live reads and editing together packages for promotion on Nerve Radio. Secondly, I had to ensure the station was positively supporting the union with campaigns and events such as the elections and the summer ball. Since undertaking the role Nerve Radio continued its development and soon became one of the best student radio stations under the Student Radio Association membership. In my time managing the station we won six Student Radio Association Awards including Best Entertainment, Best Technical Achievement and Best Female Presenter. We also were nominated for Best Student Chart Show and Best Student Radio Station. Furthermore, we had a record number of applicants wanting to join the station. One of my proudest achievements was when the station moved to a brand new set of studios located in the brand new student union building. Nerve was also 'Highly Recommended' as The Most Improved Student Radio Station at the 2015 I Love Student Radio Awards. Show less

Head of Music
-
Sep 2013 - Jun 2014
My duties as Head of Music at Nerve Radio was to build and maintain a solid playlist that connected with students at Bournemouth University. By building relationships with record labels and radio promotional companies I was able to keep a refreshed 'daytime' playlist to schedule each week. My responsibilities also included keeping on top of the evening specialised shows. My tasks included checking audio quality of music, editing music on mixed channel editing software such as Adobe Audition. I also uploaded and scheduled the evening shows on the software P Squared Auto Track ready for the presenters to go live. By creating relationships with presenters, producers and record companies I also created opportunities for the station to interview artists and bands. I would confirm the interview then direct the right person to lead the interview. I worked with interviews including Rudimental, Newton Faulkner, High Contrast and Bondax. The experience as Nerve Radio Head of Music has developed my music programming skills to industry standard. Show less

BBC Radio 1Xtra - Charlies Army
-
Sep 2013 - Oct 2013
During these 2 months I worked on a 3 week course being trained by the highest standard of BBC producers and presenters including Charlie Sloth, Sarah-Jane Crawford and Mista Jam. The placement was designed to build professional radio skills in production. This lasted three weeks and included a shadowing experience of Charlie Sloths live prime time slot at the BBC studios in Southampton. During the first 2 weeks we was trained working in production teams to build up to the live event 1 Xtra Live in the final week at the Bournemouth BIC. Working in teams we creatively produced packages to play out on BBC Radio 1Xtra. We recorded links, drafted scripts and recorded and edited vox pops to build the promotional material together. Charlie Sloth then spoke to us live on the radio and played the package. During my time with BBC Radio 1XTRA I developed skills including: Working in a production team promoting and pitching ideas to go live on the radio. Being creative and producing content for presenters to air live. Script writing and presenting. Interviewing the live acts performing including Katy B, Ms. Dynamite and Chase & Status. Show less
