During my time in Newcastle University I have watched Nic turn into an extremely hardworking confident and passionate individual with a fiery drive towards both his academic and personal interests. Nic has proven himself to go above and beyond with any group work tasks, stepping up for any partners and colleagues, and excelling in any collaborative or presentative work. Always eager to learn and improve himself, he is a wonderful contributor to any team and I find myself lucky to have been able to work and study these last few years alongside him. I have full confidence Nic will be a fantastic asset towards anything he chooses to pursue in the future.

During his time as a student ambassador for the school of engineering, Nic displayed many qualities that made him stand out as an exceptional employee. He was personable, helpful and above all had a genuine enthusiasm for his subject and the wider university that shone through when he would speak to people, be that his peers, potential applicants or their parents. He was a genuine pleasure to work with. No task was beyond him and he eagerly turned his hand to any task delegated to him, from blog writing and content generation to presentation delivery. I’d have no hesitation in recommending Nic for any - and I mean ANY - role he may find himself applying for in the future. I’m confident that if he displays the same characteristics in the workplace as he did at university whilst working as an ambassador, he’ll go on to great things.

Over the course of a 3-month internship at Redtail Telematics a mixture of roles were offered to me. I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks, which demonstrated the breadth of positions held in most of the industry. The first of many tasks presented to me was one involving manufacturing and quality control, providing integral insight into the processes of assembling products and production methods. As part of this task, I was required to disassemble products, gauge the material’s standards, update firmware, and reassemble. A large portion of my time at Redtail involved assisting with testing, inclusive of, troubleshooting devices, assessing faults and with environmental testing requirements for new products. This was a particularly enjoyable experience and one which taught me about the processes engineers in industry take to evaluate errors and faults. It highlighted how experience becomes increasingly useful for efficient future troubleshooting. The Marketing and Sales team also offered me some guidance and the opportunity to tackle a task their team often faces, I felt particularly fortunate to be trusted with said role, especially without a background in Marketing. I remain extremely appreciative of Redtail, as they were aware of my interests in said industry. It was a genuine privilege to be offered the chance to intern at such a company as Redtail Telematics, the team is filled with incredibly talented individuals, all of which I feel I have learned valuable lessons from, which I aim to build on throughout my career.

A role initially involving prospective student support, answering student life and course content related questions, leading course project demonstrations and supervising practical circuit manufacturing exercises. Successful shifts highlighted me to managers, leading to further roles being offered such as creating video content for virtual open day tours, my personal university experience, and social media advertisements. Additionally, the impact of the pandemic meant a move to virtual events, as a result I assisted with online summer schools and open days. Throughout the course of my role as a Student Ambassador, I too held a position for the university on a service entitled ‘UniBuddy.’ One which allowed international and local prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students to contact me if they were interested in the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I was expected to answer course and student life related questions to the best of my abilities or to direct them to a better point of contact. Associated with this was the option to construct blog posts for the university ‘UniBuddy’ page, which I too was involved in. Two such posts were uploaded to the university website which highlighted their ongoing sustainability efforts and research around campus.

As a Student Ambassador I assisted academic staff in outlining course content, while discussing the student experience at Northumbria University with prospective students. I led tours and directed visitors around campus, as well as assisting with setup prior to events and cleaning up post events.
