I have known Richard both in a professional and personal manner since initially working with him some thirty six years ago at P&O Containers Ltd in the City of London. In the late 90"s and until early 2002, Richard & I also had the pleasure of working together on a joint Australian-UK venture. Richard is one of those rare individuals that has the ability to grasp complicated projects and despite often seemingly intractable problems cut through the morass and yet still deliver complicated IT projects on time and under budget. He is a Mr Fixit. The sort of person that one can trust to deliver the goods. Richard knows how to motivate staff and bring about business change and when faced with a major IT project that has "gone off the rails" or a major software development that has lost its way or suffers from poor project management - he is the "go to man" If ever I was in a disaster, Richard is the sort of person to have by your side. Personally he is one of my closest and trusted business colleagues. He is an excellent golfer as well - something I aspire to but will never match his standard.

I worked with Richard in the 90's at The London Stock Exchange and always had very strong respect for his unflappable temprament and ability to always see the big picture.

Richard is one of the few professionals I have had the pleasure of working with in the change management industry that I would term as a true strategic Programme Director. Excellent focus on outcomes, sensitive stakeholder managment skills and tremendous experience and expertise to draw on.

Innovation is a UK specialist project management company that has been in operation for nearly 30 years. I am a major shareholder and director and I manage our Asian operation - Innovation Programmes and Projects (Asia) Ltd (IPPA). Our major clients in Hong Kong, currently, are AIA, Prudential, Manulife & Willis Towers Watson.By specialist we mean that all our services revolve around the delivery of successful project outcomes to our clients. Our overall philosophy on successful project management is to identify & deploy project managers who have delivered successful projects many times before, using tried & tested methods. We have a shorthand name for those that qualify –Innovators-. Many of our Innovators have worked with us over many years. After appointing an Innovator to manage a project he/she will take care of matters such as project feasibility, initiation, governance, methodology and reporting. This is done in conjunction with our clients’ management and staff. For example, we are currently developing Innovation's IFRS 17 programme/project management offering- designing IFRS changes between 2016 and 2021. This is based on project work we have already completed on IFRS17 for various clients. We have an understanding of IFRS17 but are not subject matter experts. However, we have great insights on the practical challenges of implementing IFRS17 There are a limited number of Innovators in the market place and my role is essentially to identify and recruit Innovators and match them to the requirements of our clients. I take care of our Innovators so they can take care of you and, in my account management role, we can review their performance together. I have 40+ years experience of project & programme management. This experience is available to anyone who would like to discuss any particular delivery issues they may be experiencing. Why not email me now at richard.beaven@innovation.co.uk Show less

I sold a major project to a large pension management company via my own company (The IT GUILD Holdings Ltd.). The value of the business was approximately £10m over 4 years. I was the Programme Manager. I introduced and managed the project support office, appointed and managed the project managers, managed the technical architecture team, liaised with the project sponsors (lead users) and reported on progress to the Steering Committee (including CEO, COO, and FD etc.). Other projects were included within the overall programme as they arose, including millennium and Euro projects. By the end of 1999 the most important projects, to satisfy the regulators, had been completed. These included ‘Quick wins’, general ledger replacement, electronic trade confirmation, derivatives back office, cash management, integrated cash as well as millennium and Euro. I sold the remaining business to Innovation Business Vision and joined them as a Director Show less

I held a number of positions at the Stock Exchange. I was used, typically, to sort out important and difficult business issues. I was the IT Director with responsibility to re-engineer the trading systems (an £80m project), where I worked closely with The Chairman, CEO, CFO and Andersen Consulting. I was the IT Director of the Primary Markets Division where I built a new department from scratch. I also sold a microfiche business to a commercial provider. I was a Programme Manager, reporting directly to the CEO, to resolve a number of business critical issues. I also delivered a number of business critical projects. Show less

I was employed by CSC to provide consultancy services to the Stock Exchange to monitor the Big Bang projects for the Council of The Stock Exchange. My major contribution was to build an in-house project office to support the numerous IT projects required in preparation for Big Bang. This included a planning department (20 staff), a configuration management office (40 staff), a quality assurance office (4 staff) and a data administration office (6 staff). Due to the success of the big bang projects The Stock Exchange offered me a permanent position one year later. Show less
