Conor Looney
Mary McBride is a dynamic and outstanding business person whom I would recommend to any company looking for a courageous leader, with real-world commercial pedigree, outstanding operational experience, and exceptional people skills. Her unique breadth of functional and operational experience has allowed Mary to become a trusted business leader, especially suited to the most critical periods in an enterprise’s life. She has led dispersed teams through very challenging commercial environments, including the transformation of a major business unit delivering operational efficiencies and cost savings, and she has successfully won major sales contracts by utilising her relationship-building ability and persistent commercial drive. Mary would be an asset to any organisation looking for a leader with integrity and tenacity to lead a major transformation programme or to lead their commercial and operational functions with a positive spirit, boundless energy, and dogged drive.

Sep 2017 - Jun 2019
• Led the conception, implementation, and optimisation of partnerships and organisational change agendas – a head office commercial restructure, and a field sales restructure• Responsible for driving NSV efficiencies, market share growth, and employee engagement• Developed and embedded a commercial capabilities strategy, focused on talent development• Appointed the High-Performance Culture and Great Line Manager Lead for Mars Ireland, overseeing recruitment, onboarding, training and development, and employee reviews• Managed stakeholder engagement and the crafting of data-driven insights into deliverables✔ It was important to futureproof the company to secure and deliver longer-term business viability, from a cost-per-call through to the margin-per-line and customer profitability mix. I tendered for and managed an appointed third-party distributor to deliver an ‘In It Together’ outsourced model, which is still in place at the business today. I used data-driven insights to propose and deliver new partnership opportunities and business model solutions. I was awarded a Mars Make The Difference Award for the resulting €1m gain in operating cost efficiencies and category share gains of +6% and +12% in the Nielsen and Kantar markets, respectively.✔ As the High-Performance Culture and Great Line Manager lead for Mars Ireland, I delivered workshops across the business. Key from an employer branding perspective, and how customers perceived Mars personnel, was the ability to attract, develop and retain talent. I was rated as the top line manager for engagement in 2019 – a Gallup Associate Engagement Survey put us in the 85th percentile.
