André is an assertive and proactive person. During the time we spent at the university, he was involved in several extracurricular activities performing roles that required a lot of leadership, communication and management skills that he naturally possesses. He is a great communicator with a great general culture and the ability to create empathy with anyone by adjusting his speech to the different social scenarios.

I've work with A.Orvalho during the development of jobshop project( http://jobshop.ist.utl.pt ) and i noticed that he is a very synthetic person and he has a great sense of leadership, work flow and teamwork. He's responsibility is one of some other thinks i could detach about him, by the way, he's very funny guy too and it creates a good teamwork environment during the development of an project. Strongly recommended by me.

When I joined Vivino I was manly a Full stack Ruby on Rails Engineer but here I learned so much more. Passed most of my 4 years here working with Javascript and React and in my last year I started working with GO lang in a micro-service backend context. Highlights: - Worked closely with PM's & Design in creating component based solutions for the web. - Set up a new Headless CMS solution for for marketing and communication purposes. - Improved the testing approach with creating solutions to avoid using cassette's recording. Allowing development and running time to diminish by more than 50%. - Became one of the few persons in the company capable of working on almost every existing code base(10+ projects). Show less

I was teaching web development part-time. Mostly taking classes about Javascript and also a bit of rails models and routing. I have also taught remotely to a batch in Munich while the pandemic was on. This including teaching classes from slides, helping students solve challenges after and a live coding session every day. - Removed all critical bugs and started decoupling the front-end from the back-end. - Refactored API and released a new version to customers. - Worked remotely from Australia on the last 8 months. - There was 5 to 10 customer requests a week which I had to answer in less than 24 and fix within a week. - Learned a lot on how to produce software that is used by millions, specially on the decision making of new features and on keeping technical debt on the surface.

      - Built a CMS from scratch which would be used to all magazines worldwide. - Created it as a responsive platform, fully-tested and including an API for integration with native app’s. - Page loading speed increased by ~2.2x (400ms faster avg) and deployment time reduced dramatically from almost a day to under 30 minutes. - Bug count decreased to less than 20% and customer feedback was consistently very positive. Learned Scrum from a specialist. I was part of the team developing a job portal for one the top technology universities in Portugal, IST (www.ist.utl.pt). Played a main role on the design and implementation of the software architecture along with some requirements management tasks. Implemented and pushed forward the usage of agile methodology while developing the solution, manly at the back-end. Including unit testing, bug fixing and continuous support. We used technologies like PHP, Apache and github. The project lives on at http://www.jobshop.ist.utl.pt/ Show less
