Oct 2012 - Jan 2020
The Australian Rail Track Corporation is the rail infrastructure manager for the interstate freight rail network. My role reports to the General Counsel & Company Secretary and I advise the business about the preparation and negotiation of virtually all its contracts as well as compliance issues within the organisation. Contracts: I work closely with the national Contracts Services Team which works to fulfill all of ARTC’s contract and procurement requirements. The matters I work on range from routine procurement activities for goods and services through to major construction and maintenance projects. Some of the more unique matters have included: - contracts with an international defence contractor developing the technology for an advanced train management system; - contracts with a telecommunications company providing services used in train control systems; and - training and advice for the project team formed to deliver the Melbourne-Brisbane Inland Rail project. Compliance: - I am involved in the development and evolution of the compliance management function and I often provide advice to ARTC’s in-house auditors (internal audit/non-financial). - I also regularly assist with matters raised by the safety regulators. Other: In addition to the above, my practice also requires me to provide advice and/or management of property, employment, work, health & safety, rail safety, corporate governance and litigation matters. In terms of added value services to the business I have: - prepared and presented contract training workshops locally and interstate, and - assisted the General Counsel & Company Secretary in the drafting of a Legal Compliance Assurance Procedure and enhancements to the company compliance register.
