Pierre came to our research group in 2001 as a Postdoctoral Fellow. I have worked with him over the last eight years in my capacity as Senior Technical Officer for our group. In that time I have been fortunate to learn a number of important techniques in molecular biology from him. He is an excellent and patient teacher. Working closely with him I have had the opportunity to observe the high level of precision and accuracy he brings to his experimental studies. The planning of complex experimental procedures has frequently impressed me. He has assisted many others with his wide scientific knowledge. I am sorry that he is leaving our group and I wish him well in his future position.
John Mackrill
During this period, Pierre was a bright, enthusiastic, motivated individual who was capable of discussing scientific issues in depth in at least two languages. It was a pleasure to work with him.

Design, coordinate and implement research aiming at a better understanding of the calcium transport function in the healthy and diseased muscles, particularly in the heart and skeletal muscles. The ultimate goal is to enable improvement of the population’s well being through better health.Key achievements:• Demonstrate and characterize functional modulation of ryanodine receptors by Homer • Establish similarities in skeletal and cardiac receptors modulation by Homer• Publish various papers in international journals• Communicate results at conferences• Obtain funding• Establish and test new hypotheses• Develop new collaborations overseas, provide collaborators with purified proteins• New cell lines• First functional evidence, in Australia, for the ryanodine receptor from Drosophila• Lead or participate in four projects • Design, express, purify and demonstrate functionality of new mutant of the ryanodine receptor

PhD Student
-
Oct 1991 - Jun 1996
Primary Responsibilities: • Developing new technologies • Performing experiments • Learning to work independently • Reviewing literature and communicating results • Teaching plant physiology: setting up and teaching of tutorial and lab. work for 2nd year students (300 hours of teaching). Assessment of the students (correction of reviews and homework, giving marks) • Attending seminars for pedagogical training Key Achievements: • Establish new methods for studding membrane transport systems • Identify a new nitrate transport system; provide a detailed functional description of the system, including pharmacological characterization. • Publish various papers in international peer review journals • Develop hypothesizes regarding the molecular identity and physiological role of the new transport system. Those hypotheses have since been verified by others.
