  My usual day-to-day as a Student Mentor would start in the office sending emails to students and offering support to any first year students completing a paper in the faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. Occasionally I was required to help set up events and prize giveaways, basic errands and meetings with other mentors and the mentor co-ordinator. This role gave me a lot of experience in areas outside of working in an office especially in terms of talking with people. To be successful at this job you must be outgoing and approachable so students feel comfortable coming to you for help. As such I was able to really learn a lot about how to interact with others in a professional environment and how to project myself in a friendly and helpful way that students felt comfortable speaking with me.
