  Sjoerd Derine is a professional dance-theater photographer from Amsterdam. Since 1998 he has been active in the field of dance and theater, as a dancer as well as a moviemaker and photographer. He began his career in Utrecht, the Netherlands, where he was introduced to the youth-theater company DOX. From there on he moved into the Hip Hop dance community under the supervision of Eszteca Noya. Since 1998 he has been active in the field of dance and theater, as a dancer as well as a moviemaker and photographer. He began his career in Utrecht, the Netherlands, where he was introduced to the youth-theater company DOX. From there on he moved into the Hip Hop dance community under the supervision of Eszteca Noya. When Sjoerd picked up his camera to document the world of dancing around him, things changed drastically. From being a graduate student and employee in Graphic Web Design he taught himself the art of photography and began to capture dance on photo. From then on Sjoerd has worked with organizations like Holland Dance Festival, Nederlandse Dans Dagen, Kinderen voor Kinderen, but also renowned dance companies like Jens van Daele, ISH, DOX, AYA, IRC, the Notorious IBE, The Ruggeds and many more individual award-winning artists like Redo (winner of the Swan 2019) Shailes Bahoran, Rutkay Ozpinar and Kevin ‘Paradox’ Oelen. Sjoerd is also active as a photographer for dance-academies like Lucia Marthas, Fontys, Amsterdam Theater & Dance Academy and ArtEZ. Since 2015 Sjoerd has been a fulltime dance-theater photographer and has set his vision to be always in service of the dance-theater piece. He has the ability to surprise you with his view on your piece, giving the piece of art a completely new look. Sjoerd is always looking for that moment, composition and action where the piece comes out in its best potential. Sjoerd is unique in his approach.
