Bio
Michael Vida
I was Kevin's manager for a year and a half. Kevin is independent, creative, imaginative, resourceful, sharp, and a supportive team lead. He's personable and engagingly positive, and possesses a great sense of humor. Kevin understands Information Security holistically, and is familiar with the multitude of techniques and technologies available and how they interact to protect an organization. He applied equal amounts of creativity, logic and intuition to his architect role. His deductive reasoning ability helped him solve operational problems, and was key to his effectiveness as an investigator and forensic examiner. Kevin remains composed and capable during incidents: he knows when to act quickly and decisively, and when more thoughtful consideration is advised. He possesses an instinctive ability to quickly determine which anomalies signal dangerous threats, and which are just noise. He separates the digital wheat from the chaff. It was easy to work with Kevin. He needed little in the way of direction, and would solve most problems on his own. He would always bring viable potential solutions to the table before presenting problems for discussion. His solutions exhibited foresight and an understanding of how Information Security fits into the larger organizational landscape. Kevin knows how to apply security solutions that support operations with minimal impact. Kevin is above all loyal, trustworthy, and dedicated. He exhibits personal integrity and ethical behavior. He's thoroughly white hat, yet able to understand black hat motivations and behaviors. In short, Kevin is a true professional and I'd work with him again in a heartbeat.
William L. (Bill) Ferrell
I worked with Kevin at VCU Health System in Richmond, Virginia for a little more than a year. Kevin was my go-to guy when I needed assistance or some quick learning. Not only is he exceptionally knowledgeable about IT and InfoSec, he was always willing to share his time and energy helping out. It's rare to find someone who is so sharp professionally AND willing to share that experience gained in order to help others grow professionally. I think Kevin's broad expanse of InfoSec understanding and capability comes from his well-rounded and varied professional history. Many times, when I encountered a tool or app or a process that I wanted to know more about, I would ask him about it; not only did he have experience with whatever it was, he had two other things that were as good or better, that he could show me. Kevin was the Lead on my team at VCU Health and as the supervisor, he was always encouraging and helpful, yet firm. He was not an "over-the-shoulder" kind of manager; we had the freedom to direct our work and as long as the results were on time, thorough and correct, Kevin was pleased. If things weren't going well, he would step in and ask how he could help, without blame or harshness. I really enjoyed my time working with Kevin.
