I worked across a variety of viral hepatitis or sexual health projects at any given time. Students As LifeStyle Activists (SALSA): Master of Public Health Capstone Project

The SALSA program, which is run by the University of Sydney and Western Sydney Local Health District, aims to provide high school students with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle. During my Master of Public Health I worked with SALSA program directors to conduct a literature review and recommend evidence-based changes for an updated version of the program’s evaluation questionnaire (used to measure the program's impact and outcomes). I also completed an ethics application for reliability testing of the updated questionnaire in schools.

Prevention Programs Campaign Intern and Office Volunteer

I worked with the Community Engagement and Program Delivery Division at Cancer Council NSW. I assisted the Community Programs Coordinators in the Metro Sydney team in facilitating the SunSound and Improve Your Long Game skin cancer prevention campaigns, which focus on improving sun protection behaviours. My responsibilities included travelling to campaign sites to complete implementation audits, engaging with community stakeholders at launch events, and evaluating and providing feedback on the campaigns towards their conclusion. I also facilitated a day of workshops with approximately 400 primary school aged children at Elouera Surf Club, with the aim of improving their health literacy around sun protection and skin cancer. I was subsequently asked to fill in for the Regional Nutrition Project Officer as an Office Volunteer while she was on annual leave. I was the point of contact for a number of schools in Metro Sydney and a group of approximately 20 volunteer facilitators. I successfully ensured that six community workshops ran smoothly in the Project Officer's absence, including stepping in as a facilitator myself once when required.

At My Adventure Travel (part of Flight Centre Travel Group) I received invaluable training and experience in customer service, sales and leadership. After less than six months with the company I was promoted to Assistant Team Leader as a result of my strong sales figures and attention to detail. This role came with a significant increase in responsibility, including training and managing new members to the team, managing the store for weeks at a time when the Team Leader was on leave, and knowing and understanding the store’s figures. I attended regular meetings to discuss the brand’s financial progress and future strategy with other leaders from around the country.

A large part of my job was supplier relations, from confirming schedules a year in advance to making last minute changes with hours to spare.
