Graduate Geologist role within the Groundwater Department. The position provided exposure to a range of areas including, fieldwork: geothermal involvement, borehole investigations, geophysical surveys, and soil logging field excursions; communication: representing GSI at conferences, responding to public inquiries as well as stakeholder engagement; and involvement with Europe wide GeoERA projects: Hover, HotLime, MUSE, RESOURCE, TACTIC; a combination of looking at the effects of climate change on groundwater, hydrological processes and geological settings, as well as geothermal. Highlights • Creation of the access National Groundwater Level Database, involving data gathering and processing, as well as the use of SQL scripts. • A significant amount of time was spent on the GeoERA project, MUSE, a Europewide collaboration on shallow geothermal energy. I completed detailed questionnaires for the pilot area, participated in the kick-off project meeting in Essen, Germany where I presented the Irish Pilot Area, attended the German Geothermal Congress, and undertook the organisation and execution of the pilot area fieldwork with use of a distributed temperature sensor (DTS). • Temperature profile measurements down deep boreholes drilled for mining exploration using DTS.
