Ian is a talented, reliable and hard working developer. He took a leading role in the development of updates to a complex finance calculation system including reviewing requirements, technical design, implementation, to deployment, for multiple European markets. He quickly picked up and understood the existing system and made sure changes were clean and concise to keep it maintainable. He also was happy to talk to and demonstrate the changes to our client which was fantastic. I could rely on Ian to work through tickets and progress the project while I was unavailable and he would always ask if he had any question of what or how something should be achieved. Very happy to have worked with Ian, would hire him again for any technically challenging work!!

Ian worked with Valtech to deliver the new Career Site for the UK Government. Playing a central role in building the site using Wordpress, Ian used his extensive platform knowledge to develop a site that is robust, scalable and responsive, as well introducing a framework and workflows that makes it easy for all government departments to publish content. He maintained an impeccable professional attitude at all times, focusing on successful outcomes while remaining positive and approachable at all times. He also supported Valtech with contributions to enhance the Bristol Fintech community site, which are very much appreciated! Ian has been a tremendous asset to the team, and I would be delighted to work with Ian again.

Hired in a senior developer role and used my skills in both Angular and WordPress to help Nessy. Initial task was a full review of their WordPress site which was running WooCommerce and had bespoke code that made calls back to a core backend written in .Net. It was this latter communication that caused a lot of customer service issues. I re-wrote the bespoke code fully and introduced comprehensive logging capability which meant that daily logs were exported from the host and saved externally. These logs have proved vital in tracking down and preventing a large number of issues. Indeed the support team recently noted that the number of daily calls is significantly less than a year ago. Result! In hand with this I was the lead developer on a project to replace the current WordPress ecommerce site with a bespoke site written in Angular 9. The designs were created by an external London based agency in React and I reworked these into Angular with the help of a storybook project passed across by the agency. Technologies used: Angular, TypeScript, PHP, C#, Web APIs, WordPress. Show less

Senior developer tasked with numerous enhancements to the Bupa Dental Care website which is underpinned by Umbraco CMS. This included development of new forms and changes to existing ones. Developed and set up several Azure scheduled tasks to supply valuable business reporting to the Bupa Marketing department – involved writing bespoke SQL queries to extract data from Umbraco database tables. Enhancements also made to internal bespoke .NET applications that support the ordering of specialist dental work, online bookings and payments to associates. Reduced significant technical debt around the implementation of Google Maps functionality which was, prior to the changes, creating large monthly fees for Bupa. Tasked with auditing and clearing down large amounts of data from the Umbraco database tables which were making bespoke reports slow and difficult to use. Feedback from Darren Scammell, Head of Software Development: "Ian joined the software development team within Bupa and made an immediate positive impact. His professionalism and attitude were excellent throughout his time with us and he is somebody who we would happily utilize again. Ian engaged well with other team members, quickly integrated with our agile process and was an integral part of the team’s success in delivering great software to the business." Show less
