Toby worked as part of our team to deliver studies and designs for clients in the mining and industrial sectors. He applied his mechanical engineering skills with enthusiasm, attenditon to detail and due consideration to client and project objectives. He has very good written english and is able to communicate his ideas clearly, both verbally and written. If only we could, I would have him back in our team tomorrow.

Manages the cross-disciplinary Design and Integration Team that includes mechanical, electrical and systems engineers and drafters. Ensures all tasks are scoped and estimated for client approval and then delegated, tracked and reviewed to ensure completion on time and budget and to the required standard. Additionally, is the Functional Manager for Hardware, ensuring the correct processes are in place and followed for mechanical and electrical design. Achievements: • Completed all Task Plans under the Land 200 Through Life Support program on time and budget and approved by the customer. • Completed all mechanical engineering and drafting tasks and led the engineering response for the Mobile Retransmission System tender to CASG. • Improved standardisation of design and drafting activities by setting up a Hardware Function Wiki site that allows all team members to create work instructions for activities sitting the level below documented processes. • Took on the role of Solidworks PDM Administrator to ensure all drafting processes were being completed correctly, including modifying the review and approval workflow. As a senior member of the Bot Hardware Sustaining Engineering Team, planned, delegated and completed tasks required for the sustainment and continuous improvement of existing Bot and Charge Station products. Managed design changes from problem identification through to solution development and modification of product defining data, while ensuring full traceability is maintained through accurate documentation. Additionally assisted Production Engineering by designing tools, jigs and fixtures required on site for installation, operation and maintenance of products. Achievements: - Lead the task of clearing the backlog of legacy Engineering Change Notes (ECNs) on the 400 series Bot. Investigated each ECN for validity and accuracy of data, then either completed or delegated the drafting of all drawing changes. Reduced the number of open ECNs from 40 to 10 in a period of 3 months. - Completed CAD analysis of the gripper mechanism that allows the Bot to pick up the Tote that carries groceries. As the design of the grippers was done by a third party, the operational issues being experienced by the mechanism were difficult to quantify. My analysis identified critical measurements within components that needed to have their tolerances tightly controlled to ensure correct operation of the mechanism. - Designed a tool for completing site acceptance testing of the Charge Stations post installation. Tool securely fixed into a grid cell under the charge station and measured height, centrality and tilt of the charge head as well as the contact pressure of the spring supported charge points. As the senior qualified engineer in the design office, was responsible for ensuring all mechanical and structural designs for the multiple chemical manufacturing plants were to code and fit for service. Achievements: - Designed a large, complex access platform that had to fit around the existing plant equipment. Used 3D CAD to ensure fit, analysed the structure using FEA and then produced all manufacturing drawings for the steelworks. - Analysed four pipe bridges that were designed prior to arrival at company using FEA to ensure designs were fit for purpose. Completed a range of engineering activities across a number of platforms of the Royal Australian Navy based out of Garden Island, Sydney, including Guided Missile Frigates (FFG Class), Helicopter Frigates (FFH Class), Amphibious Assault Ships (LHD Class) and Guided Missile Destroyers (DDG Class). Engineering activities included mechanical engineering designs, 3D modelling, Finite Element Analysis, drafting management, safety analysis, report writing and maintenance support engineering. Achievements: • Lead the completion of Installation Design Packages for the replacement of ovens and dishwashers in the Galley of the FFH Class Frigates, both of which were delivered on time and under budget. Tasks completed include structural foundation design using FEA, mechanical interface design, safety analysis of the impact of the engineering change, scheduling and management of electrical engineering and drafting resources and writing of technical documentation. • Reviewed and structurally analysed three foundations for the Helicopter Upgrade of the FFH Class Frigates. Tasks completed for each foundation include review of design drawings, modelling of the foundation using 3D CAD, structural analysis of the foundation using FEA and writing a report to communicate the results of the analysis. • Completed a two month secondment as part of the Platform System Engineering Team of the DDG Class System Project Office. Tasks completed include writing scopes of engineering changes, writing and reviewing of work instructions for defect rectifications, completing technical investigations of systems with repetitive failures and providing engineering support during maintenance availability. Mechanical Engineer – AASIMS (Amphibious & Afloat Support Integrated Materiel Support) Provided mechanical engineering support to HMAS Success, an Auxiliary Replenishment Oiler vessel based out of Garden Island, Sydney. Responsible for four major mechanical systems on the ship; mechanical handling systems, ship control systems, compressed air systems and pollution control systems. Achievements: • Completed system analysis reports (SARs) on responsible mechanical systems, providing information on the prioritisation of maintenance activities for the external maintenance period (EMP), the adequacy of the preventative maintenance regime, outstanding obsolescence issues and the cost effectiveness of the maintenance regime. • Assisted in reducing growth costs and schedule delays during EMPs by responding to all PIRs that required engineering input within the required 24 hour timeframe. • Raised engineering change proposals (ECPs) for issues found in the SARs that required further investigation and possible modification to designs or processes. Additionally, reviewed legacy ECPs in order to assess their current status and if they needed to be renewed or closed out. • Reviewed work instructions created for maintenance tasks under responsible systems in order to ensure correct engineering processes were followed.
