As part of my capstone policy paper, I worked with Seabound to build a comprehensive understanding of EU and international regulations (e.g., IMO) around carbon capture in the shipping industry. Where regulation may be lacking or taking time to develop, we explored ways to advocate for greater adoption of carbon capture technology on ships (especially where other GHG-reducing options are not feasible or cost-effective), including building on efforts to improve incentive structures and/or policies around this space. The program brought 33 women leaders from all eleven YSEALI member countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Timor-Leste) together for a series of workshops on leadership training and capacity-building, with an emphasis on promoting economic development in the region. The program included mentorship and emphasized participants’ ties with the larger ASEAN Economic Community.
