Over the last two years, I have evolved our proof-of-concept modular communication platforms to resillient products capable of exceptional reliability figures, 99.999%, and passing tough compliance standards. As Senior Engineer, I have lead the transition from intial marketing requirements, through specification, design and into production whilst incorporating previous design. As a primary focus, I have designed the processor board for the new product line and there is a lot on the board: Quad-core processor, DDR4, PCIe Gen2, XFI/SFP, 10GBASE-KR, 10GBASE-T, eMMC, clocking with IEEE1588 support, USB, 17 power rails, 2kV power isolation, board management with STM32 microcontroller, and everything necessary to support the manufacturing flow. The platform is a mutli-board system and in an IP-rated enclosure. I have had to work closely with the contract hardware engineer to design the interboard interconnect and overall platform using 3D modelling as an essential tool. External resources for layout and mechanical design have been essential for efficiency; I managed the layout engineer and made a lot of decisions on the platform mechanics. Design reviews are an intrinsic part of my role, and I take pride in finding the concelead errors. The product required strict compliance testing, and overall product quality required many weeks of verification and fault finding. Redesign of sections has been required with deep analysis of fault causes to ensure a highly robust product. Overseeing the designs from prototype to production phase has been particularly challenging as we have grown, transitioned manufacturers and aimed for higher yields, improved test coverage and faster processes. In the end the board has over 550 ATE TPs to get the coverage required. The project has been particularly rewarding and exciting. There is never a dull day at Blu Wireless. Show less
