Software Engineer

Jan 2014 - Feb 2014
Continuing on from my previous work at NAB, I was engaged in the same team and department over the summer period, helping to wrap up the upcoming release of NAB Connect. This involved further work on the upgrade and expansion of the Selenium testing framework, and review of the existing test cases for clarity, purpose and reliability, as well as seeing the release move through the various stages of testing before implementation.

Jul 2013 - Dec 2013
Development and further expansion of the business banking web application, NAB Connect as part of the next release (Release 11, due 2014). I was part of a medium sized Agile team of Developers working on this project, and tackled the development of a few user stories in the Mobile and Accessibility streams. Defect resolution also played a major part in my day-to-day work, and often required observing the application log files or tracing through many complex layers of code to find the root cause and a possible solution.Once the code development ramped down in late 2013, I spent my time working with another Senior Developer to design and implement a Selenium Automated Browser Testing framework, which aimed to provide simplified testing of the web application and its functions using the plain english Gherkin scripting language (Given/When/Then phrases). The complexity of the framework required the classes to be designed thoughtfully, using layers of abstraction and common design patterns to create objects with set responsibilities and limited coupling to other objects in the application space. High levels of documentation (both internally and externally) were also necessary in order for the framework to be a maintainable and understandable piece of code even after the placement drew to a close and I was no longer at NAB to share my knowledge.

Salesperson

Dec 2008 - Jul 2012
A casual salesperson in the beginnings, I was taken under the wing of the acting manager at the time, and was taught the proper methods of stock management, promotion and display, within a country retail environment. I undertook company training in the recommended way in which to initiate a sales transaction with a customer and follow it through to checkout, ensuring the customer's needs were met, and that there would be no unexpected surprises when they got home. During my final years of VCE, I gave assistance to the network administration team at my secondary college of 1000+ students; I was involved in the rollout of workstation upgrades and the upgrade of the school's intranet portal (SharePoint 2007), as well as the set up of the network and computer infrastructure at the college's new third campus for disadvantaged students. I also provided technical assistance to staff members (during daily use of the IT/IS systems).
