  I have completed a highly enjoyable "Industrial Placement" year at Veritas as part of my Computer Science degree at the University of Reading.I worked on Veritas' Enterprise Vault.Cloud product as a part of multiple development/troubleshooting teams.My role included:► Writing features and fixing bugs, working mainly on middle tier application levels / back end development, primarily using c#, .net and sql.► Diagnosing and fixing customer reported issues and interacting with Customer Services on providing the solutions to customers.► Writing automated tests using the “Fitnesse Slim” framework.► Learning about the admin related features of both on-premis Microsoft Exchange/AD (07-16) and Office 365 exchange / Azure AD► Following coding conventions such as the SOLID principals.► Using agile scrum methodology.► Mentoring new interns.The main technologies I used were:► C#/asp.net► Java► Powershell► Visual Studio/TFS► Fitnesse► SQL► SSMS► Both on prem/O365 exchange/ADI was frequently exposed to complex services that I had not worked on before and I was required to diagnose issues that used technologies that were totally new to me. In order to deliver results in short timescales I had to collaborate closely and effectively with different experts and teams at several locations across the globe. To be most effective I needed to be very flexible in terms of working hours.I built up a good working relationship with the remote teams and as well as learning about new services and technologies that were required to resolve issues, I believe that I became a valued team member in the global Veritas community.I learnt much more from my time with Veritas than I was originally expecting and I am grateful for the opportunity to have had an amazing experience with a great company and great people.

  I undertook an internship at the Prudential spanning my first year Easter and Summer breaks from University.I joined the internal IT innovation team and was tasked with helping them investigate new concepts, technologies and methods that could have a significant positive impact on the Pru. My role included: ► Researching new technology e.g. connected devices & wearable technologies ► Following the Kanban methodology to evaluate its strenghts and weaknesses ► Finding a solution to a particular problem with a new cypher that had just been developed ► Developing web applications using a Low Code platform (Mendix) ► Testing the limits of what could be achieved with Mendix ► Working with three other interns to develop an internal website to track new initiatives ► I created a PoC work tracker using Jira that gave a holistic view on various activities. I had to acquire new skills at short notice (e.g. PHP programming, MySql databases, SQL and Agile development) and I came away from this experience feeling great about what we had achieved as a team and how I had developed personally, both in terms of technical knowledge and in terms of working in a commercial team environment.
