I am currently working as a CYW placement student with the TCDSB in a behavioural classroom. My duties included counselling clients, supporting clients' health and safety through proper nutrition and exercise, and completing safety checks of the residence. I was also entrusted with completing daily logs of client behaviour and activity as well as properly documenting incidents as they happen. At the Youthdale summer camp I supervised large groups of clients in both educational and recreational activities, and I had the opportunity to help lead a group of 11 clients on a 4 day canoe trip in Algonquin Park. As a senior staff at Blue Lake Camp, I planned and led interpretive nature expeditions, coordinated off-site trips with large numbers of clients, and trained and evaluated a staff team. I supported clients aged 7-16 in their development of social skills and outdoor activities, as well as staff aged 15-20 in developing their skills as leaders counsellors. At the Scouts Canada-run Camp Opemikon, I had the pleasure of working as a counsellor at the very camp I attended as a youth. I led groups of clients aged 9-15 in a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, canoeing, camping, orienteering, knot-tying and safe knife use. I was responsible for clients' safety and well being during their time at camp, including supporting their emotional and social needs and attending to basic first aid necessities.
