At Xtracked Flow we made it our mission to help companies grow by improving their workflow. We do this by creating the simplest, most user-friendly CRM application ever. Flow consists of a PC application, an Identity Service for requesting Access Tokens (OAuth 2.0, OpenId Connect) and an API Service for accessing User Data. It is designed as a Multi-Tenant platform that allows Services (SaaS) to be hosted both in the Cloud (GCP, Google Cloud Run) as well as On-premise using Docker. As Product Manager, I work closely with stakeholders to analyze business processes, define and prioritize user requirements and create the vision for the Xtracked Flow development project. I identify opportunities and improvements, define the roadmap and maintain the product backlog.I created the User Experience (UX) Design, High-Fidelity Wireframes and UI Design (Material Design) for the application. I designed and specified the Flow API (RESTful) using the OpenAPI Specification (OAS) and co-designed the PostgreSQL databases for both Cloud Services. I designed and developed the WPF Front-end (C# 10, .NET 6, XAML) and supported Back-end development. Show less

The Xtracked App for Android allows you to control speed and functions of your model trains. It does so by communicating with the SmartHub X1 via its event-driven API. As Product Owner, I created the vision for the project. I defined the development goals and created the User Experience (UX) Design and High-Fidelity Wireframes for the App. I worked closely with third party contractors to create the UI Design and I prepared assets for the development team. I created our website and setup our Customer Support Center in Zendesk.I was responsible for creating the SmartHub X1 manufacturing process and designing a mechanical PCB test fixture (Jig) for programming, calibrating and testing circuit boards. This meant creating a 3D design (DS Mechanical), 3D printing (FDM PLA), sourcing components, designing schematics (Altium), soldering boards, assembling test jigs and designing Embedded and PC software. I defined pass/fail conditions for a Functional test (FCT) and developed a WinForms PC application (C#, .NET Framework) for test automation. For the SmartHub I designed a command-line interface (CLI) that allows In-System Programming (ISP).As a startup you must embrace resource constraints, minimize waste and maximize value. Therefore I decided to use modern manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing and laser cutting rather than e.g. injection molding. I created the 3D product design in SketchUp and the design for laser cutting in Illustrator. Through multiple Build-Measure-Learn (BML) cycles, I was able to rapidly perfect the housing design. The design includes detailed graphics, rounded corners and a fully functional button using living hinges in 3 mm MDF. For the packaging I selected standard size boxes and designed a custom protective inlay of multiple laser cut 10 mm PE foam layers. Show less

The Xtracked SmartHub X1 is a plug and play device that makes model railway command stations from Roco/Fleischmann and Lenz smart and Wi-Fi connected. The device has an XpressNet (RS-485) Command Bus and receives software updates via the Cloud (SUOTA). Model trains can be controlled via a JSON API and the Xtracked App.I was responsible for designing and creating all hardware, software, processes, protocols and tooling (for e.g. assembling, programming, calibrating and testing circuit boards) from the ground up. This meant defining project requirements, identifying hardware options, creating the bill of materials (BOM), sourcing components, soldering prototypes, designing schematics (Altium) and working with third-party contractors to finalize the circuit board (PCB) designs. At the heart of the embedded platform is the ESP32 by Espressif, running ESP-IDF (IoT Development Framework), Mongoose, Mbed TLS and real-time operating system FreeRTOS. I designed the Embedded Software as modular components in C, resulting in high code reusability and maintainability. I designed the Xtracked API as an event-driven (asynchronous) API using WebSockets (over TCP). Devices are discovered on the network using UDP Broadcasts. An Embedded Web Server (EWS) allows local API testing. The device creates a JWT, formats HTTP POST data and requests an Access Token from the Google OAuth 2.0 auth server. It reads config and software update info from Cloud Firestore (NoSQL) and downloads application and file system images from Cloud Storage. A software updater deciphers and validates (CRC32) the XTEA protected file stream, writes data to the SPIFFS file system and sets the new boot partition. I used a CMake-based build system and a SEGGER J-Link Probe for JTAG debugging. I designed a command-line interface (CLI) to allow In-System Programming (ISP) from UART (Motorola S-records). SPIN remote’s aim and mission is to reduce a growing complexity in people’s lives, advocating for smart and simple solutions. Our award-winning product, the Seamless Device Controller SDC-1, allows you to steer your smart (e.g. Sonos, Philips Hue) & non-smart (e.g. TV) devices with gesture control. As a Founder I was involved with every major aspect of creating, running and growing the business. From selling our first 1.000 units on Kickstarter (crowdfunding) to defining business processes and securing investments. I advised and informed stakeholders and helped to create a successful team of a group of multi-talented people. As CTO I was responsible for defining the tech vision behind the company and bringing the SPIN remote SDC-1 to life. I managed a team of highly skilled hardware, software and support engineers in The Netherlands and worked closely with our manufacturing partner (top 5) in China. I was responsible for Mass Production, Quality Assurance, Quality Control and complying with EU & US requirements (CE/FCC). I created the UX Design for our iOS and Android Apps, identified opportunities and improvements, helped design software and defined the product roadmap and backlog. At the heart of the SDC-1 is the Atmel (now Microchip) SAM D20 Arm Cortex-M0 microcontroller, running ASF (Atmel Software Framework), QTouch, Freescale (now NXP) Sensor Fusion and real-time operating system FreeRTOS. The device has a Dialog (now Renesas) DA14580 Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) system-on-chip (SoC), 3-Axis Gyroscope, Accelerometer and Magnetometer (9DoF). I designed and developed all embedded software from the ground up in C. This includes the bootloader, application and algorithms for 3D motion tracking, capacitive touch sensing, Infrared (IR) encoding & decoding and services for e.g. secure software updates (SUOTA) via BLE. Xtracked turns your mobile phone into a personal and professional GPS tracking system. As Software Engineer I was not only responsible for the design and development of mobile apps, server software and our web application, I also made sure that in the end every separate piece would fit together. I developed mobile applications using Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME) and wrote server software in C++. I designed a data-efficient byte-oriented, packet-based protocol for client-server communication via TCP. I created the Xtracked Library to provide the required support for unsigned data types in Java and JME. I built our web application using Zend Framework (PHP) and used JavaScript and jQuery to deliver a rich user interface. I implemented Douglas-Peucker line simplification algorithms to increase data efficiency and used Haversine and Vincenty’s formulae to calculate geographical distance. I designed a REST API to request processed geographical data as JSONP and implemented the Google Maps API to display location data on a map in real-time. Show less

As an entrepreneur, I was part of an international collaboration between different R&D experts called Inter-Data. Together we developed both hardware and software solutions related to real-time object monitoring. Our main platform was a GPS black box with GPRS and an RS-232 expansion port. During this period, I worked closely with companies in both The Netherlands and South Africa. I spent 6 months in Cape Town, where I was responsible for the implementation of the Garmin Fleet Management Interface (FMI). This interface is used to communicate with a Garmin device for Enterprise Tracking applications. The applications include two-way messaging, assigning and sending routes and periodically receiving the device’s position, velocity and time (PVT). I built the web application for messaging using Zend Framework (PHP) and I designed the corresponding MySQL database. I created a rich front-end using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Ajax. I developed Windows Server software in C++, using Borland C++Builder and the Indy Socket Library. Garmin devices were serially (RS-232) connected to our hardware, which added an identification packet and relayed data to my server application via TCP. Other projects were temperature monitoring of refrigerated transport, management of traffic information systems and anti-theft monitoring of backup power generators. Show less

At HEBRE I was responsible for the realization of various (embedded) software projects, mainly targeting the Windows CE platform and the Compaq (later HP) iPAQ Pocket PC. By combining the Pocket PC and TomTom’s first Navigator software with a custom developed application, I was able to offer customers one of the first mobile, easy to use and affordable GPS navigators. My projects included web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), low-level serial communication (RS-232), the design and implementation of a Windows CE application and the seamless integration of a rear-view camera system with the PDA. Functionality of the iPAQ was expanded via so-called sleeves or jackets, such as the LifeView FlyJacket (offering video input). I implemented various hardware APIs and developed software in Embedded Visual Basic (eVB) and Adobe Dreamweaver. I helped transition Bart Smit (a Dutch retail chain) from desktop based planning to using the Pocket PC for logistics, navigation and truck safety. In addition to developing software, I was involved in sales, customer support and car electronics installation. Show less
