  Zwavelbetontechnologie bestaat reeds sinds de jaren 70′ en is gebaseerd op de polymerisatie van zwavel als binder voor betongranulaten en aldus als alternatief voor traditioneel cement. In 2004 werd een nieuwe techniek ontwikkeld voor de productie van duurzaam zwavelbeton. De Bonte stapte in 2011 mee in dit R&D project in voor de verder ontwikkeling van toepassingen in dit nieuwe composiet.
