Alchemy Ventures of Baril Corporation, Haverhill, Massachusetts 2008-2009Alchemy Ventures acts as an incubator for individuals or young companies that hold promising medical device intellectual property but don’t have the funding for product development. Baril Corporation, Alchemy Venture’s parent company, provides up-front capital to get IP-protected concepts fully realized. Prototyping, manufacture mapping, market modeling were all provided to potential customers. This work would complement strong IP concepts and allow individuals/companies to attract the attention of Venture Capital now that a higher level of polish had been applied to the device proposal as a whole. The medical devices were brought from raw concept to manufactured products. Responsibilities included:• Working on all aspects of bringing medical devices to market • Performing product feasibility/manufacturability analysis by working intimately with production engineering; also worked to maximize efficiencies in material usage and elevate yields from a single production run displacing setup time costs over the greatest number of units produced• Creating proposals and budgets for a vast array of different medical products which helped keep the pipeline full • Working with clients to determine which characteristics of a product should be incorporated in order to best meet consumer needs; this broad spectrum analysis allowed our customers to vie for greater market share• Collaborating closely with Dan Baril, the CEO, and all upper management of Baril Corp Show less

I was engaged in entrepreneurial work with Dr. Peter Rosenblatt, the Director of Urogynecology of Mount Auburn Hospital. He has numerous patent protected concepts unique to his surgical specialty that we are in the process of commercializing. Together we are developing all aspects of these surgical improvement concepts through the fabrication of working prototypes. We then work to forge agreements with potential manufacturers and companies that have access to distribution channels. This partnership with Dr. Rosenblatt requires me to wear many hats. Pitching the concepts to potential business partners requires strong customer facing experience; my design, problem solving and manufacturing awareness allow me to establish a credible and trusted position in these meetings, which helps tremendously in the sales process.
