Bio
Jamila Siddiqui, PhD
Rachel is the one you want in your organization when you’re striving for innovative teams that succeed through a balance of creativity, strategy, agility, and holistic wellness. I have had the privilege of working on her team at the Carleton Career Center in the past year and half, learning from her about what it means to be a leader who is truly committed to the success of the people you serve (professionally and personally) and the mission at hand. As a coach, Rachel has shared inspirational ideas, encouraged me to see new paths, boosted my confidence in my instincts, and consistently empowered me to move forward in ways that produced significant gains and improvements in my area. Rachel helps others be their best and in a way that is true to who they are. This holds for professional staff working with her as well as students and clientele she coaches along their career journeys. Rachel knows what is needed to achieve excellence. She champions the conditions that create diverse, thriving teams and communities: people who are curious and think outside of the box, conviction for the importance of open-mindedness when encountering divergent views and experiences, and vast networks of partners from continuous relationship-building. Rachel is always making strategic connections between ideas and people, and asking the right questions at the right time to keep the team not just moving, but moving in a way that is relevant to the present moment. This means the outputs of her team’s work are more effective and connected to audience needs. Rachel is also a joy to be around—whether it be her unfaltering presence with others, her vulnerability and self-awareness, or her humor and signature laugh that sparks smiles even down the hallway. I knew even before I took this position that it would be both a pleasure and honor to work with her, and that has surely held true. I have no doubt that she will continue to do great things and be an inspiration to others.
Amber Bieneck, MA
I had the pleasure of working with Rachel on the board of the Minnesota Private Colleges Career Consortium for several years, through my term as Chair of the organization, as well as hers. Rachel is a thoughtful, innovative, empathetic and flexible leader. Through the "COVID Years" we experienced many challenges, and Rachel handled the ambiguity with grace and fantastic problem solving. Our organization was comprised of staff from 17 different private colleges in the state, and served a very diverse group of students from those colleges. Rachel always had the best interests of students and staff in mind, and was an impartial and respectful leader. Though my time working with Rachel came to an end when I left the organization, I can honestly and wholeheartedly say I'd be thrilled to work with her again and would recommend anyone who is given the chance to do the same.

Oct 2018 - Jul 2023
As Associate Director, I supervise two full-time staff members... ** In support of our experiential learning director, I encourage nimble programming to create opportunities (namely internships and externships) for all of our students. ** Our recruitment and employer engagement area is focused on excellent student coaching and outreach to facilitate great partnerships and employment for Carleton students. I encourage creative and sustained alumni conversations with current students. I seek out opportunities to develop and expand Career Center partnerships on campus and beyond. Working with faculty to complement their academic curriculum is particularly enjoyable. And, I'm planting seeds to develop a broader ecosystem of support for entrepreneurship on campus and beyond. During a leadership transition, I served as Co-Director of the Career Center (Summer & Fall 2018). In this role, I enjoyed maintaining continuity and supporting colleagues through the change. I ensured that we were able to maintain excellence while positioning the office for new leadership. Show less

Program Director for Internships and Experiential Learning
-
Mar 2015 - Sep 2018
As Program Director for Internships and Experiential Learning, I supported domestic and international internship experiences to encourage learning and skill building, including by managing a significant funding program to offset internship-related expenses. I oversaw (and spent) current and endowed funds to award nearly $500,000 to students each year. I built and implemented a career readiness reflection program to engage students in skill development and learning. Our program includes preparatory goal setting; guided reflection during internship; and post-internship reflection and sharing on campus. My program was inspired by thought leaders from a unique mix of mindfulness, HR, and career development fields. I collaborated with academic partners, administrators, and community leaders to develop internships (on and off-campus) and auxiliary experiences to prepare students for life after college. I regularly counseled students on how to tune into their curiosity to drive the application process to secure satisfying employment. I encouraged creative career exploration through domestic and international pursuits. I provided excellent service to meet every student exactly where they are in their development. Show less
