Jeff Miller
Dave and I worked together for about seven years in the 90’s in the Sales organization with RR Donnelley. I was going to start this recommendation with examples of accounts and projects we worked on, but I quickly realized that our relationship, and Dave’s involvement in my life, far exceeds what any work anecdote can capture. Sure, we shared knowledge about production, efficiency, profitability, teamwork, client satisfaction, etc., but that was a given with Dave. When talking about work-related matters, one could always be certain Dave was going to dive head first into the issue, and offer up his wide array of knowledge, or if it was something he was no too sure about, it was guaranteed he would thoroughly research it and present his findings. Preciseness and accuracy was never in question when working with Dave, and like I said, it was always just a given. He was always a trusted, go-to guy. I learned a lot from Dave, mostly about passion, curiosity, the thirst for knowledge, and the drive to fully understand an issue, and come up with a solution. I consider him a true role model in the work environment, and one of the most valuable to me in my career. Things I observed in him have resonated with me to this day. While we worked together seven years or so, our friendship has lasted over twenty-five years. Until I sat down to write this, I never really stopped to think about why our friendship has endured the test of time. Dave and I have gone stretches of time without hearing from each other, but suddenly one of us will get that urge to catch up with each other, and it always turns out to be the

I have known Dave Kamis both professionally and as a friend for over 20 years. In his professional life, I have witnessed his constant curiosity for learning and passion for helping other people. These traits enabled him to move into ever more challenging career positions. Dave combines his intellectuality with emotional intelligence to make personal connections and find solutions to complex problems. A key part of Dave’s character is the ability to appreciate both sides of an argument and find consensus that leaves all parties feeling good about the outcome. Building lasting relationships throughout his career is a hallmark of Dave’s success. He was tough and direct when needed, but always cared about the individual and their happiness. Some of my proudest professional accomplishments were a direct result of working with Dave to create positive outcomes for both our organizations. As a friend, Dave helped me through some very difficult times with my father who suffered from vascular dementia. When I would feel frustrated or angry with the situation Dave was always there to listen and offer sound advice. Dave has a unique ability to get people to open up about their problems and feelings without ever passing judgement. He always seemed to focus our conversations on my life and with every interaction he made me feel better about myself. Dave is now pursuing his calling in life. I know he will do wonderful things in his next career in social work. His natural ability to empathize and help other people will be an invaluable asset to any organization. Dave Kamis has a lot to give society and we are all better off having him in our lives. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or additional information.
