PalauPharma commenced operations in December 2006 as a spin-out of Grupo Uriach's R&D Unit with the capitalization of external investors. I was promoted as a head of the recently created Discovery Analytics Department leading a group of six people. We conducted characterization of drug candidates, elaborating drug profiles of the new chemical entities, including physicochemical determinations, polymorphism studies, impurity profiling, stress/stability studies, developing of new stability indicating HPLC/UPLC methods and all the needed analytical tests to ensure purity and quality of the compounds. Grupo Uriach decided to restructure all the analytical services of the company, to take advantage of synergies and they created a centralized Analytical Unity, headed by Dr Antonio Gargallo. All the analytical resources of the organic chemistry department were absorbed by that new Unity and we began to expand analytical services to Grupo Uriach, working closely with the Control Quality department, Pharmaceutical development and Urquima (raw materials factory).Our section was specialized in sophisticated instrumentation analysis, specially liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance.
