I've handed over the Alternative Mining Solutions PFS to my Exxaro client, who is developing the proposal into a Bankable Feasibility Study. I fulfill an Integration role in the BFS, managing the integrity of the solution within a changing mining operation. I am aligning the design, operating capacity and operational methodology to changes in the planning and design of the existing operation. I am directing the expansion of the dynamic simulation to accommodate expected operational changes, conform to the expansion of operating rules and fulfill extended operational requirements. I am modelling and measuring the effects of all changes on the utilisation and efficiency of the proposed IPCC solution.I am translating and re-modelling the financial impacts and investment business case to ensure accurate definition of the financial and operating impacts compared to the Base Case plan.I am formulating and testing value ideas that will improve the capital efficiency and business case of the final design proposal. Jun 2019 - Nov 2020
To sustain future business competitiveness, it is imperative to determine whether the equipment and technologies Exxaro employs to deliver on its business and production plans is the most suitable strategy within its future strategic intent, and whether alternative equipment strategies can be employed to minimize impacts from increased future operational activities. The client's biggest operation is entering into a haul truck procurement cycle due to pit expansions, and had to determine whether alternative solutions such as in-pit crushing and conveying material transport systems would present a more feasible solution than expanding its fleet of large haul trucks.I successfully managed, directed and delivered an extensive, technically feasible, and financially viable Pre-feasibility study that conformed to all project delivery and assurance criteria. The multi-disciplinary team I managed included expert consultancies in the field of design and engineering, geotechnical analysis, mining, dynamic simulation, cost estimation, financial modelling, risk analysis and operational readiness. The outcome enabled its Board to approve the next BFS phase and ensure future implementation certainty. My duties included:Facilitate a full understanding of the Base Case plan, and areas of impact.Configure alternative mining technologies, scenarios, and application relevance as opposed to expanding its ultra large equipment fleet.Quantify the opportunity to reduce emissions, dust generation, and secondary equipment in the identification of the ideal solution.Measure the solution's result in maintaining operations within acceptable/tolerable risk.Reduce system complexity characterised by multi-faceted unplanned variables by designing for a predictable, controllable environment (although still complicated).Identify all project life cycle guidelines and investment criteria and manage the compliance thereto.Align stakeholders in supporting and committing to the study outcome. Jan 2016 - Present
I am led by my future view of having a meaningful impact on the viability and sustainability of businesses and to find new opportunity and business potential. My focus stretches from the development and alignment of strategy within as specific operating environment, and reaches to the functional level where productivity, optimisation, innovation, quality and human capital sits at the core of product delivery. My passion and interest cover innovation, process management and optimisation, human capital productivity, business improvement/rescue, investment review, scenario development and business strategy, conceptualisation and business case development, mineral resource development, project and functional teams relationships and team symbiosis, risk/value decision making, concept to feasibility studies, facility planning and heavy mining equipment evaluation. I build understanding of real and sustainable value creation vs short term advancement destroying long term value. This I look for in evaluating a total system, not the improvement of individual parts. Through either experience, technical acumen, industrial engineering intuition, managerial insight, business acumen, project thinking, and system approaches to problems and solutions, my industry operating space is diverse in which to apply my skills. I can operate in areas such as mining, mineral to market value chain, iron making, manufacturing, logistics, transport, technology, facility layout, aerospace, engineering, asset management, management consulting, small business and information technology. I am a confident communicator with strong interpersonal and analytical skills who thrives on team interaction and shared purpose. I am an adaptable, relentless and an articulate project manager with a broad knowledge base, comfortable in interacting with all professional disciplines, across different industries. Show less
