My research was focused on developing superconducting radio frequency (SRF) microwave cavities for macroscopic optomechanics. Simply stated, we inject a certain wavelength of light (microwaves) and allow them to build up (resonate) within these structures. Simply stated, we inject a certain wavelength of light (microwaves) and allow them to build up (resonate) within these structures. With large enough quality factors (a measure of energy stored vs energy lost), the light actually has enough pressure to manipulate mechanical oscillators - such as amplifying or damping motion. The devices have applications in metrology, cavity quantum electrodynamics, and quantum information science. My past responsibilities include research and teaching. I arranged the opportunity to move and conduct research in Perth, Western Australia for three months. I strengthened my skills and understanding in the areas of microwave interferometry, optomechanics, and bulk acoustic wave devices. I taught multiple introductory physics and calculus discussion sections at the university. Show less

Perth, Australia I was a visiting graduate student at the University of Western, Australia in Perth, Australia with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems under the joint guidance of Dr Michael Tobar and Dr Jay Sharping. We investigated the influence of the thermal Casimir force with microwave re-entrant cavities and its exciting applications to develop arbitrary topological mechanical oscillators.
