Overview

Young Futures aims to improve the life chances of young people, aged 16 to 21 years old, living in and leaving local authority care. We equip them with the necessary life and social skills which help to raise self-esteem and emotional resilience, improve motivation, support lifelong learning and promote inclusion. Young people leaving care are amongst the most vulnerable young people in society and generally experience poor life outcomes. These include: greater likelihood of involvement in the criminal justice system (less than 1% of all children are in care yet over 24% of the adult prison population have been in care); higher rates of depression or anxiety (some 45% of looked after children are assessed as having a mental health illness) and a higher risk of unemployment, poverty and homelessness than their peers. Young Futures are a leading provider of supported housing to young people leaving care and currently provide accommodation with support and therapy to local authorities in London. We have ambitious plans to grow our work, pioneering a blue-print for national best practice. Young Futures is a forward-thinking not-for-profit community investment company. We have the values of a charity and the drive and ambition of a business.
