Overview

As the tiny, landlocked Moldova struggles to deal with the fallout of Russia’s war on Ukraine, its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu, shared “We are the most fragile neighbor of Ukraine because we are the country that is most affected and we are the country that has the fewest resources to deal with the situation and the fallout from the war.” The ongoing war next door has put the landlocked country of Moldova, a former Soviet republic and one of Europe’s poorest nations, in a precarious position. Moldova is Eastern Europe’s smallest nation with a population of fewer than 2.5 million, an average annual income of approximately $5000, and a landmass slightly larger than the state of Maryland. In less than two months, however, it has been overwhelmed by hundreds of thousands of civilians fleeing Russia’s ongoing military campaign. The Moldovan people’s response is an inspiration for the world. On their own, they have mobilized volunteers across the country to house refugees in their homes, develop a tracking system to prevent human trafficking, invited Ukrainian children into their schools, and established shelters and food banks for the refugees. The country with the least has shared the most. We are proposing a documentary that will highlight the efforts of the people of Moldova to lend their support to the refugees from Ukraine while spotlighting the coming threat that Putin poses to this precariously located country. The small and poor country of Moldova has taken in more refugees per capita and per GDP than any other country in the world while itself under constant threat from Russia that they are next for a takeover. How did they pull this off? Please consider supporting this important documentary that will help spread the word and support currently active humanitarian efforts in Moldova. Get involved now. Do not wait. Thank you, Marc and Richard
