Overview

Researchers now agree that lack of knowledge and understanding of large carnivores such a cougars, bears and wolves is the primary impediment to population recovery and robustness. Two of Washington’s top carnivores, grizzly bears and gray wolves, are listed as endangered species, meaning their populations are threatened with eventual extinction. At Western Wildlife Outreach our job to is to address this important challenge. Through our very successful outreach program, our staff and volunteers work tirelessly with individuals, communities, recreationalists, livestock producers and businesses, in order to provide them with science-based information, tools and guidance so that they are better prepared to successfully co-exist with bears, cougars wolves and other carnivores. Through increased knowledge and understanding, people gain respect for the important roles that carnivores play in maintaining ecosystem health. With better understanding, tolerance for their presence increases, leading to fewer poaching incidents, and fewer conflicts.
