Overview

The Washington Conservatory of Music is a nationally accredited (NASM/ACCPAS) community music school serving the Greater Washington DC and Bethesda, MD area since 1984, located in historic Glen Echo Park, as part of the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture in a National Park in Glen Echo, MD The hallmark of WCM is individualized instruction with outstanding faculty, personal attention and guidance for students of any age, any stage of learning. Students of all ages - children, teens and adults - may study with artist-faculty members without audition. Individual lessons are offered in piano, voice, strings, guitar/bass, voice, percussion, woodwinds, and brass. Whether a student is on a musical career path or engages in music for personal growth and enjoyment, the WCM faculty guides each student to set and meet their own goals and musical potential. Students may request training according to the graded curriculum and testing of ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal School of Music.) Instruments of the aural tradition are taught in group classes, including Irish flute and tin whistle, Irish bouzouki, tenor banjo, mandolin, Irish Fiddle and Irish bodhran, and various levels of Folk Guitar guitar and ukulele. Group vocal classes are offered for both adults and children. A community orchestra is available to both adults and teens. As a community service, WCM offers free monthly professional concerts featuring WCM artist faculty and guest artists. The Washington Conservatory sponsors an outreach program - Tapestry Music Project - that provides free music classes to children of immigrant and low-income families of color.
