VETPAW - Veterans Empowered to Protect African Wildlife

Non-profit Organizations

Overview

Iconic and irreplaceable species such as elephants and rhinos are being slaughtered to the brink of extinction. The goal of Veterans Empowered to Protect African Wildlife is to help end the African poaching crisis and conserve endangered species by utilizing the unrivaled skills and experience of post-9/11 U.S. veterans to train park rangers and support their communities. Veteran participation also fosters bilateral relations with African nations while providing veterans with meaningful employment that they might otherwise not find. VETPAW collaborates closely with rangers, national parks, and government agencies. This includes working side-by-side with anti-poaching patrols, implementing infantry tactics, unit cohesion, medical skills, and other game-changing tools in the modern poaching war. We ensure that rangers have the best equipment to fight well-armed poachers by repurposing U.S. military supplies. VETPAW promotes capacity- and relationship building in East Africa, elevating the perception of the military at home and abroad while helping prevent the extinction of keystone species and ecosystems, and the disastrous economic impact it would have. The specialized expertise and commitment of our veterans dovetails with the dedication of Tanzania to preserve its most valuable assets.
