Twins Research Australia
Research ServicesOverview
Twins Research Australia (formerly known as the Australian Twin Registry) is an Australian not-for-profit organisation which enables unique health and medical research involving twins. It does this by providing services to researchers for projects that help improve our understanding of human wellbeing. TRA is a registry of more than 70,000 identical and non-identical twins of all ages from Australia who are willing to consider participating in ethically approved research. By studying the differences and similarities of twins, researchers are able to tease apart the effects of nature (genetics) and nurture (environment) on our health and wellbeing. With the advent of genomic and other 'nomic' technologies, twin studies are becoming even more valuable in fast tracking important research discoveries. TRA is an open and independent resource available to all researchers and is housed within the University of Melbourne.
