Common Ground is an urban design + planning firm that utilizes architecture, landscape design, and city planning to create and improve cities, towns, and neighborhoods. As urban designers, we take on the responsibility of guiding the growth of a community. The health, vitality, and longevity of a town and its sense of place rely greatly on thoughtful planning and foresight. It’s not a responsibility we take lightly, because we know that the decisions made today will have great impact on the community long into the future. We develop master plans for communities that include a range of housing types, a connected network of streets and blocks, civic spaces, and amenities within walking distance of residences. We work for private developers who want to do something different from the standard suburban subdivision. We work for municipalities with progressive leaders who want something better for their cities or towns. We collaborate with planners, engineers, economists, illustrators, and fellow designers to create visionary, yet implementable plans. We develop projects that focus on conservation, efficiency, and choice; providing residents with a more convenient lifestyle within enduring and memorable environments. We are able to draw from our backgrounds in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning, as well as our experience in the public and private sectors, to develop and implement plans to help make Nashville and the region a better place to live.
