The vision to master-plan and build an entire community on the Duda family's Cocoa Ranch began to take shape in the mid-1980s. The family new this long-term project would take a lot of faith to achieve; thus, the name of the town, Viera, which means faith in the Duda family's native Slovak language. As the master developer of the community, The Viera Company makes sure the vision for Viera is achieved and maintained. Reflecting the core values of its parent company, the mission of The Viera Company is to develop a vibrant community. The Viera Company manages the development of DUDA’s non-agricultural land. Viera Realty and Viera Builders provide vertical integration of the company’s real estate operations. Duran Golf Club in the community of Viera offers a championship golf course and golf learning center. The company’s commercial property division manages a portfolio of commercial entities across the country, and the corporation's land asset management division actively seeks to enhance the value of existing land holdings and ag-oriented properties and facilities. The goal of the master plan is to accommodate the quality of life values sought by its new residents. From professional community planners, to area residents, to local business owners, the cooperative efforts of the many help support the growth of Viera. Development plans will continue to be focused in a manner that sustains the needs of its residents and complements the needs of the surrounding area.
