The Trieste Times is your main news source in English from the Trieste area. --- Until now, there has been a complete lack of a well-organised, clearly presented information source from Trieste (and its Territory) to the rest of the world. Any news from this area of Europe would have to be filtered by news agencies based hundreds of kilometers from it. Right now The Trieste Times is, therefore, the main direct news source in English from Trieste and its Territory. While English is not a native language in Trieste, it has always been widely used, even informally, since the time James Joyce lived here (1904-1920), all the way to the British and American direct administration of the city (1945-1954), and even today by many citizens, students and tourists. This news page was, therefore, very much needed since long before globalization as we know it kicked in. English is also becoming more and more the language of choice for young citizens of this corner of Europe: in an area where Italian, Slovenian, Croatian, German, etc. (plus a number of local languages and dialects) are currently spoken, English is becoming more and more often the most neutral and reliable mean of communication.
