Overview

South Africa’s education system is failing. Less than 10% of students who start school in Grade 1 end up qualifying for university at the end of Grade 12. The Preeva Foundation is changing this. The vast majority of those who pass school attend high end, expensive schools. Most of South Africa’s students are from families living near or below the poverty line and can only attend government controlled public schools. The system leaves them without adequate education and a chance to break their cycle of poverty. The shocking statistics are the result of many issues facing students including but not limited to: - Lack of educational resources (low-quality teaching and overworked teachers). - High dropout rates (financial reasons or the need for children to support their family). - Unsafe learning environments and lack of adequate classrooms. - Unsupportive parenting resulting in unmotivated students. - Physical and psychosocial challenges caused by high crime & violence in communities. *Our vision:* A South Africa where every student has an equal chance in education, regardless of their background. *Our mission:* Radically increase the number of underprivileged students who pass school and qualify for university. *Our long solution:* Address the above mentioned, physical, psychosocial, access and quality related issues in South Africa’s education system to decrease dropout rates and increase pass and success rates of students. *Our current focus:* Select suitable Grade 12 students and run a 1-year program for them, which ensures that they achieve highly at school, qualify for university, apply on time and secure necessary tertiary education funding from one of our bursary partners. The program has a 100% success rate thus far for students who complete the program.
