Overview

The Internet Service Providers’ Association of South Africa (ISPA) is a voluntary Internet industry body not for gain. ISPA currently has 175 members who are primarily large, medium and small Internet service and access providers situated in South Africa. All of them are governed by the ISPA Code of Conduct which aims to ensure a fair, transparent and accessible South African Internet. ISPA was founded on 6 June 1996 and undertakes a variety of industry–promoting projects, including running three Internet exchanges, providing IT training for teachers and combating spam in South Africa. The Association also facilitates exchange between its members, the two departments of the South African government regulating the country's ICT space, ICASA (The Independent Communications Authority of SA), telecoms operators and other service providers in South Africa. The Minister of Communications formally recognised ISPA as an Industry Representative Body in terms of section 71 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002 on 20 May 2009.
